What does it remember?
Every car that ever pulled over in Franconia Notch to look up.

The Old Man of the Mountain was a granite profile on Cannon Mountain, shaped over thousands of years by ice and weather. He watched over New Hampshire until the morning of May 3, 2003, when he fell. He's still on the state quarter, the highway signs, and this patch, stitched decades ago for the travelers who came to see him in person.

The shield is goldenrod twill. His profile is embroidered in black and slate gray, set into a green hillside, with a merrowed green border. The lettering reads "Mountains," plural, the way the souvenir makers spelled it.

Sew it onto a tote, a jacket or a hat. Carry a piece of the Granite State that's gone from the mountain but still around in thread.
